The Town of Prosper, just north of Frisco, has grown exponentially as families seek a more tranquil suburban location, but yet enjoy exemplary schools and a growing retail sector to provide easy access to shopping and dining. Prosper only encompasses 27 square miles and when home development first began in the early 2000’s, most homesites were a half acre or more in size. In response to the demand for more housing and a growing need for the infrastructure to support more the Town, Prosper changed residential zoning requirements to allow for more dense homesites and communities. In recent years, commercial development has skyrocketed to the south of highway 380 which continues to attract future homeowners that seek a small town feel but with the conveniences of shopping and dining venues.
For years Prosper has positioned itself to offer more of a luxury home market with a strong family-friendly environment. To keep its small town charm, many community activities occur at local parks and in their major master planned communities. Family oriented sports activities are plentiful and encouraged. With most commercial development located off highway 380, traffic within Prosper streets is mostly residential, creating a simpler commute around town and a quiet lifestyle. Residents travel south of Prosper for major events, attractions, and nightlife.
Beginning with the Gates of Prosper bringing in shopping and dining to the east side of Prosper, additional commercial development reached central and the west side of Prosper at the Shops of Prosper Trail and the Windsong Ranch Marketplace, Prosper residents no longer have to travel far for their favorite grocery stores like the Kroger Marketplace and Wal-Mart. While boutique shopping is limited with Prosper’s infancy in development, Black Willow Boutique and Lily Claire are local faves. Stop in at the Brass Tap or Texas Roadhouse for family oriented dining experiences. More diverse cuisine is worthy of a try at Hungry Platters featuring Mediterranean fare or Hana Hibachi and Sushi.
Frontier Park is home to many music and entertainment events like the Town of Prosper’s annual 4th of July event, Pride in the Sky, Celebrate Prosper, and the Prosper Fishing Derby. Other times of the year, Frontier Park’s baseball, sports, and football fields are in wide use as are the playgrounds, trails, and a splash park.
The draw of Prosper is its serene town backroads you don’t see in surrounding suburbs already heavily developed so just driving around town creates a sense of peace and simplicity from the hectic pace of daily life. Take a stroll through Town Lake Park with its 27 acre fully stocked pond where kayaking and canoeing are allowed.
Prosper is known for The Lagoon in the Windsong Ranch community. While it can only be accessed by homeowners in Windsong Ranch, you can park and peak through the gates and see the 5 acres of crystal clear water and sandy white beaches.
